Clare Elwell is a Professor of Medical Physics at University College London. She develops innovative systems which use light to image the human brain.
Her current projects involve investigating early markers of autism in the first few months of life, improving clinical care of critically ill patients and understanding the effects of malnutrition on brain development in infants in rural Africa.
Clare is passionate about using her research in her university teaching to show how science can solve real world problems. She is an enthusiastic contributor to a wide range of public engagement activities with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers to change the world.
