Claire Crowley is a final year PhD student in University College London. Her project is to design and develop a synthetic windpipe replacement for patients with airway stenosis.
In June 2011, supported by her team at UCL, she designed and manufactured a tailor-made synthetic windpipe for a cancer patient with successful outcome, making it the world’s first synthetic transplanted organ.
Claire is passionate about science and aims to educate young people, in particular young women today, of the rewarding opportunities that a career path in science can provide.
She has spoken at events for young people and ran interactive sessions promoting the exciting world of science.
